Among the Dust

Passing along another new fanfic that I thought was pretty decent.

Among the Dust.

I was just about to post on that, actually.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one, actually. I keep bouncing between liking it and only thinking it was okay. It's the ending that's mucking up the works for me, mostly.

It does feel like they lost sight of exactly what they were writing about. It's still pretty good and raises some interesting questions. The ending is at odds with the darker beginning, and it feels as though it's just tacked on.

Still. I enjoyed it. Nice to see fics set in the canon-verse rather than the usual AU fair.

Yeah, I felt like at the end the author went "oh shit, I'm supposed to write YoruSoi, and this is dangerously close to YoruHara, I've got to throw some YoruSoi in there!"

Which is a shame because this particular topic doesn't need to be presented in a shippy manner. But I think I've settled on liking the fic, just not as much as I could have had the ending had been handled differently.

I will say this as an indisputable positive in it's favor, though; it served to further motivate me to get on my own FKT fic.
