There exists, beneath the sands and rocks of Hueco Mundo's surface, and far beyond the forest of the menos... a garden. Perhaps that's the wrong word for it, as what lends to its splendor are not plants, but rather, immobile hollow organisms that feed on the reishi-dense air, and release a brightly colored silver light. They resemble roses, in a way, with long, curled thorns that run up the bases of their long stems. In this place, they have amassed by the thousands, their light reflecting off the quartz crystals in the high ceiling above to reflect an eerily beautiful sliver-green light across the entire area.

In the center of this garden stood a grand pavilion, and in the center of this was cradled the sleeping form of a young woman. In front of her resting place was what served as a meeting room, with an elaborately decorated table wreathed by equally decadent chairs placed there. In forty-eight hours the servants of this sleeping woman would meet... but for now this place stood isolated.

In each of the four corners of the garden there was erected a lavish palace, which served as a dwelling for the order's members. In the top left corner stood the dwelling of Barbarossa, the rook. In the top right was the private dwelling of the Cherrywood siblings, in the bottom, the palaces for the King and Queen, as well as for the Pawn, could be seen.

Of all these places, the Garganta opened in meeting room. Alexi stepped through carefully, followed by Hion, who was dragging Tetsuya along as a master would a dog. the portal snapped shut behind them.

"That was a productive night. I look forward to more in the future..." Alexi said distantly, still trying to cease his body's shaking.

"I hope you'll indulge me in a moment's solitude now, young master. I need time to collect my thoughts." He turned toward his palace as he said this. "Besides, you have a new dog to break in... am I wrong." He said with a smile.

Hion tilted his face, frowning cutely as he fumbled with the bit of his jacket he was turning into a collar, before letting it drop to the tiled floor; there were servants for such things, and a king certainly should not be bothered by cleaning. He placed his hand on Tetsuya's head with a languid, possessive movement before he gave a dismissive nod to his companion, his mouth hardening slightly.

He had planned to see his queen when the returned from the world of the living, but those plans had been derailed due to his impulsive decision for a new pet. Hion glanced down, eyeing Tetsuya over the bridge of his nose; he looked bone weary, and was still panting from the sonido's pressure, making the child's lips twist. He had promised to take care of him, after all, though kings hardly ever kept their promises.

With a light sigh, he carded his fingers through the pitch of his dog's hair, nudging him slightly in the thigh with the toes of his boots. "Come, Tetsu-inu. You look tired." He childishly drawled the words, bending slightly as his waist to meet the man's gaze, and was tempted to a peal of laughter by what he guessed was the sound of grinding teeth.

He straightened and locked his fingers around the man's collar, and began to tug, banishing the strange silence from the room with their shuffling. After Tetsuya was settled, he decided, he would visit his queen, and see what his fraccion had been doing while the cat was away.

Alexi approached the door to his palace, the first of his fraccion, a tall, bull-like man with one eye, saw him coming, and moved to open the door for him.

"Good day, Ptolomea." Alexi said, smiling wearily. "Is Anastasia about?"

"Nope, left a few hours back. She's still angry about not being selected to do the experiment in the human city." Came his servant's reply his voice was deep and gravely... sounding almost like the personified roar of a lion. Alexi laughed a little at this response.

"Well, she won't miss the meeting I guess. Did she travel alone?" He stepped into the interior of his palace, immediately moving toward a hutch at the side where rows of gum packages lay extended. He selected black coffee and mixed berry, pocketed them, and continued on into the reception hall.

"Judecca and Antenora went with her."

"Excellent! Then I can suspend at least one worry from my mind at the moment. What of you, Ptolomea? Surely you didn't spend our entire absence waiting beside the door for someone to return?" The giant man stopped, embarssed, a nervous sweatdrop rolling down his brow.

"Well, when it comes to things not related to the battlefield, I never really know what to do with myself, y'know?" He said with a chuckle.

"And people tell me I'M to devoted to work." Alexi sighed. "Well, I guess you can do what pleases you. I'm going to my private quarters."

Of in the distance, towards where the garden gives way to the Menos Forset, a column of light erupts, burning brightly for several moments before dissipating, revealing four figures.

"I see you still haven't memorized this location, Dallas." Walther, the oldest and of the group, sneered. "You nearly landed us in the wilderness!" Though his eyes weren't visible form under the hood of his cloak, he was glaring at Dallas.

"I-I'm sorry, Walther." Dallas, the youngest, stammered. "It's difficult to pin-point an exact location in this place. Everything feels the same." He patted down his robes to remove the dust from them. A futile effort, since the realm of Hollows was a perpetual desert.

"This happens every time, Walter." Gyne, the middle aged man sighed. "You think you would have grown use to it by now."

"Precisely," Walther nearly spat. "He's had enough opportunities to learn, yet he still makes the same mistakes!" He shook his head. "How you ever became one of the Three Mages is beyond me..."

"He became one because I willed it." Barbarossa turned, his armor gleaming in the otherworldly light of the location. "I saw the potential in him and decided to put that potential under your supervision. And he has proven himself quite useful, has he not?" He voice is full of authority. The question was rehtorical.

"Yes, m'Lord." Walther relents, bowing to his King.

"Besides, my bones are not so old that they fear a couple of extra steps!" Barbarossa laughs, leading his subjects. Barbarossa scans the area and spots Hion with a man in tow. He approaches.

"I see you found yourself a pet, boy." Barbarossa eyes the Shinigami with disgust, crossing his arms. "Are you sure you're up to the responsibility?"

Alexi headed toward the basement of the Cherrywood palace, which served as his private domain. The entrance stood blocked by a security panel that would open only to his voice and blood; an obstacle which he bypassed without giving it much thought, pulling a piece of coffee flavored gum free of its wrapper and biting into it with longing. The caffeine was a welcome stimulus, as his entire body felt weary.

He descended the stairs to the room where he maintained the impulse... a series of massive chrome gears spinning in hypnotic rhythm, like the pieces of a giant music box. There was an order and a harmony to this place that Alexi had always found soothing.

Aside from the impulse machine, the room had only bare furniture. A single couch, and a pristine condition piano, in front of which sat a young girl. Her body was draped in elaborate robes, and her mind was completely devoted to the concentration of her deft fingers flying along the keys, creating the tune of Chopin's "Raindrops."

"Caina..." Alexi said her name, not really surprised to find that she was still here. Upon hearing her name, the girl turned to look at him, what would be the whites of a normal creature's eyes were deep crimson in hers, a menacing color to wreath the black irises beneath them. Her expression brightened a bit, but she paid him only that moment's attention before returning to her piano. Alexi moved toward the couch, collapsing heavily into it.

"Your performance is as flawless as ever, Caina." Alexi said distantly, his eyes moving toward the still-rotating gears of his machine. "A melody far more sublime than mine. I had thought the rhythm perfect... but the hollows this machine creates are lackluster, inferior, and wretched things."

Caina had stopped playing and walked over to Alexi, her expression still mostly blank and her composure eternally silent. He patted her head reassuringly, noticing that his body had only just now ceased to tremble.

"I envy you... I don't have steady enough hands to compose anything as lovely as music or battle..." The young girl smiled at him, grabbing his hand and turning the wrist to her lips before opening her mouth wide to try to sink her teeth in. Alexi withdrew his hand at the last minute.

"You ask too much of me. Arrancar bodies are more adaptable than those of mortal humans, but even I can't survive if I lose more than three liters of blood. You'll have to wait until tomorrow if you want more."

The girl frowned, pouting for a moment, but returned to the piano without saying a word. In another moment Mozart's "turkish waltz" was ringing through the tiny room. Alexi reclined on the couch and closed his eyes. He wasn't sure why he was so weary, but he had time to kill until his sister returned.

Hion swiveled in his place, the astute childishness gone from his features as his charteruse eyes settled on Barbossa, then shifted away to a pillar behind him. He found his features unappealing, the man much more so, and his brow inclined slightly as he tilted his head back, his pupils narrowing into slits.

"Who is the real child here... boy?" He intoned softly, closing his eyes as he turned back to his pet, tangling his fingers in the man's hair again. The touch seemed to soothe him, though under his skin his muscles twitched and knotted, begging to start another game. Instead he stilled, and turned back to the other king, though he had no throne to speak of in the palace.

"Don't you think it ironic, a shinigami a hollow's plaything?" He breathed whimsically, touching his lips with his pointer finger, the gold of his eyes growing slightly. "He will be my doggie!" He took a step forward, and giggled internally as he saw the visible reaction it caused.

Hion ducked his head as an arm encircled his shoulders, coiled underneath one of his own, and held him still - pulled him back - and felt his lips twitch into a wide grin. Like always, his male fraccion had impeccable timing. "Hion-heika," A serpentine voice greeted softly into the shell of his ear, and the boy gave a dismissive nod, though his grin remained. He drew his elbow back just enough to signal Hijiri to seperate from him and stepped forward to seize Tetsuya again, his teeth flashing.

He had decided this would all work into his little - or big, depending on who was judging - plan, after all. In his head, he moved forward the pawn, eating the black before it. A good start, if any.

"Fickle moppet." Barbarossa scoffed. He turned to the Mages. "Keep an eye on that Shinigami. If he get's out of hand, do not hesitate to put him down."

"Yes, m'Lord." The Three Mages all responded in unison, nodding in affirmation.

"Now, where is Alexi?" Barabrossa scanned the area. "He went through all the trouble to send for me, I assume there is a good reason."

Another garganta opened directly behind where Barbarossa and Hion were arguing. The darkness stood uninterrupted before them for a moment, finally interrupted when the shadowy figure of a slender man stepped through it. He was an albino; his deep red eyes cold and pitiless behind his glasses as he looked around the familiar sights of his mistress' home. He stood to the left and was followed out of the portal by a tan, muscular woman with long black hair and an intense expression. She took her place to the right of the portal, and then both she and and the other man bowed deeply. There was a surge of reiatsu as the final entrant stepped through the portal. She was an elegant woman, her composure that of royalty, although she was dressed in an ambiguous way that hid her femininity as well as she could.

This was Anastasia. Alexi's sister, and the fourth member of the order. She looked at Barbarossa and Hion, mild confusion on her face.

"Have you arrived already? The meeting wasn't supposed to be for another forty-eight hours. She bowed respectfully to Barbarossa, and smiled warmly at Hion, but her expression turned wickedly bitter at the sight of Tetsuya.

"Just what is that disgusting creature doing in the garden?" She bristled with disgust, her hatred of shinigami evident by her gesture.

"His reiatsu is so weak he may as well be a butterfly." The slender arrancar who accompanied her said with a laugh... a cackling, wicked sound that reflected his personality. He reached into the holster on the back of his gray trenchcoat and withdrew his revolver, training the sight on Tetsuya.

"Would my lady wish that I kill it?" He asked, eagerly.

"Let the boy have his fun." Barbarossa held up his hand the a halting gesture. Hion seemed too absorb in his new plaything to notice the drawn weapon. "Perhaps a pet will do him some good."

"As to my early arrival," Barbarossa turned to Anastasia. "You brother called us all here. I assumed that we are finally going to take some sort of action and I though it would be best not to delay."

With a labored sigh, Anastasia turned toward her subordinate and nodded her confirmation.

"Leave him be for now, Judecca." He shrugged indifferently and returned his weapon to its holster.

"Your suspicions are correct, though." Anastasia said, turning her attention to Barbarossa, lest the shinigami enrage her again. "Our Queen will be waking in one week's time, and my brother thought it might be ideal to carve a bloody mark in the soul society prior to her return."

"Excellent." Barbarossa smirked maliciously. "Aizen may have been a mad man, but he did severely wound the Shingami. We should have pressed our advantage long ago."

Hion's hackles raised, though he remained silent and made a small effort to keep his face straightened into even, indifferent planes. He let out a small breath, in between a sigh and a scoff. Barbarossa is too eager, for a king. The strongest needed plans to follow. This was a reluctant truth, even from him.

The boy dropped his hand from the head of his pet's, moving deftly, though he rather sluggishly sonido'ed to Anastasia's side, his lips once again upturned, though it was more of a smile than his wide, unadulterated grin. He hooked his pointer and ring through the hem of the female's belt, tugging lightly as his greeting. "Anastasia," He lilted, turning his gaze up to meet hers, "Does he displease you that much?"

Almost belatedly, he cast his eyes to his male fraccion. Tetsuya would be fine, left in the more than capable hands of Hijiri. That was what he wished, however ephemeral of a thing it was.

Anastasia smiled, finding the gesture cute in spite of herself.

"He does. Shinigami disgust me." She was lost in an unpleasant nostalgia for a moment, remembering the deaths of almost everyone she had ever cared about. "... if we were to kill every last one of them, the world would be a better place."

She put one of her hands over Hion's. "But if he's your pet, I'll tolerate him for your sake."

Hion's lips split wider before he let out a tiny snort, his head lowering. "Very well," He said, leaning his head on their hands, tilting it slightly to survey Barbarossa again, though his eyes were narrowed and the pupils slitted again, and his lip curled slightly at the man. It was a possessive look, and a warning. "Just for now."

With a small pressure, he loosened his hand from the cloth, and turned his hand, grasping hers with a surprising delicacy, inclining his head back to capture Anastasia's attention again. "Did you find any apples on your trip for me?"

"You would have had better luck finding apples in the living world than I did where I went." She said, patiently allowing him to hold her hand as she walked toward her palace. "I had time to kill, so I was searching for the precious metals needed for my brother's machine."

"You're correct, as always." Hion's lip jutted out slightly, before his face straightened again, casting a look to Hijiri as he allowed himself to be lead to her abode. Behind him, his fraccion had managed to loop up his dog and lead him to their own sector of the decandence around them. He deigned to glance up at her again, and found his lips curling at their corners again.

"Did you find what you needed?" It was a rather pointless question. Judging by her loyalty to her brother, he knew she had, otherwise she would have not returned yet. They still had two full days yet to kill in the ever-darkness of Hueco Mundo.

"How can I be anything but correct when you say such silly things, Hion-chan?" She asked, patting his head. "But yes, I found what I was looking for... perhaps now Alexi can stop driving himself insane trying to perfect that melody of his."

The arrived at the front doors of the Cherrywood palace, where Ptolomea stepped forward to greet them.

"Welcome back, my lady...." He looked from her to Hion, an awkward expression on his face. "erm... will Hion-sama be our guest today?" He scratched the back of his head, not really minding either way, but surprised all the same.

"Oh no, this gentleman was simply escorting me to my home." Anastasia said with a smile. She pulled her hand free from Hion's, leaning down to kiss his forehead. "Enjoy the rest of your evening, Hion-chan, and try to be respectful of your elders, whether you like them or not." She gave him a parting smile and walked into the opened door, Judecca and Antenorra following closely behind.

"Hmph," Barbarossa frowned. All this talk of metals and melodies was foreign to him. He must have spent too much time away.

"I see no reason to postpone, if we are all present." he spoke, mostly to himself. "But they seem set in their schedule." Barbarossa frowned, as if insulted. "So much wasted time."

Hion felt his cheeks colour despite his best efforts, and let out a small sound. He really did find her pleasant, if a little patronising. That could, however, be quickly fixed. The boy nodded his goodbyes, which was more than anyone deserved from him at this point. He looked over his shoulder disdainfully at the path behind him, before he languidly made his way to the central garden.

He ran his fingers against the wall, brushing over the hard, unevened stone, his palm catching in a crevice, his fingers slicing along marble. With a sigh, he rubbed his thumb against a piece of precious stone engraved there, before his hand stilled and found the pendant hung on the chain around his throat. He tightened his grip on it, feeling the dark, hard obsidian cut into his palm, like he had let it once cut into his heart. He was so distracted that he had yet to realise where his feet had taken him.

This was were his queen slept, and as king, and as Hion, the duty of visiting and regaling her with stories fell on him alone. After all, it was only right. She was sleeping because of him.

"Gah," Barbarossa spat as he watched Anastasia and Hion both leave. There was no urgency in their speech and movements. "You three may do as you will for the time being, but do not wander far." He released the Mages from his intimidate command. "I am going to the Central Gardens. With any luck, Alexi will be there. He seems to be the one organizing things and I want to find out as much as I can." The King turned and left, his cloak flowing out from behind him.

Barbarossa followed the same path Hion took, the sound his heavy metal greaves shattering the tranquility of the Garden. To his disappointment, he did not find Alexi. But he did catch up to Hion.

"You seem to have taken quite a liking to her, haven't you boy?" Barbarossa asked with a wry smile, his booming voice echoing through the silence.

"Taken a... liking?" Hion echoed, lilting the latter word in almost confusion before he snorted, watching the still form of his sleeping queen. She looked strangely fit for somnolence, surrounded by flowers that bloomed twice, though now it was really only once. He wondered if she thought so, too.

With a small, impercievable sigh, he turned to Barbarossa, but kept the gold of his eyes averted, still locked on the pale girl. "Is there a reason you came here?" Hion said, his eyes narrowing slightly though he made a mental note to not let the process continue. The boy stooped briefly to pluck at a lotus, and curled the bud into his palm. It felt damp, and fresh in his palm. He was more surprised it felt like anything at all.

"I had hoped to find Alexi." Barbarossa watched Hion tend to the sleeping figure with what appeared to be reverence. "I have been a way for too long and I want to find out what, exactly, I have missed."

Barbarossa's allegiance to La Orden Del Sable y La Rosa could be be described as tenuous at it's strongest point. He knew that the organization had goals and aspirations, but they were not his concern.

Barbarossa approached the situation in much the same way that did the wars of the governorship; if one wanted to accomplish, one needed allies. Sometimes those allies were only temporary, made simply out of convenience and necessity.

There was no ideological connection between Barbarossa and La Orden Del Sable y La Rosa. He simply viewed the Arancar as valuable allies that could help him further his own ends.

The languid boy quirked a brow, though he moved to the queen's side, brushing away an imperfect flower that had grown too close to the beauty of her face. "And that is why you are still here?" He asked the man, his fingers tracing the cooled alabaster of her skin, carding her lengthened bangs away.

Hion sighed, brows knitting together. This idle banter was threatening the ruin of his evening plans, though truly it was always night there. It was not mildly pleasant as Anastasia's had been, or amusing, if admittedly a little tiring, as Alexi's often were. Still, Hion admitted reluctantly to himself, some things must be abided.

A taunting smile curling at the edges of the pink of his mouth, Hion gifted the man with a spare, inquistive glance, his fingers curling tighter around the flower still clutched in his small hand.

"Are you sure you want a child to answer your questions?"

"With two days to wait, I am willing to interrogate the trees." Barbarossa eyed Hion suspiciously. There was something unnerving about the way he tended to the sleeping girl. "And for as long as I have been away, they would probably know more than I."

Hion let out a tiny peal of laughter, high like the tinkling of bells. He cocked his head, his smile widening until the calcium of his teeth shone against his lips. "You're silly," He decided, "Since when do trees talk to us?"

"You would have more luck conversing with the sand. It's everywhere," He added, tilting his head in the opposite angle. Perhaps he had been slightly hasty with his decision earlier; provoking the man with simpleton knowledge absolutely tickled him.
