Have any of you run into things in other mediums that bear striking resemblances to stuff in Bleach?

well, I have. In the game Magna Cart: Tears of Blood , there is a character by the name of Chris Arcway that is a laid back, playboy, genius inventor who's main companion is a small girl that he quasi-adopted. Here's some art of him;

Ghostface Killah also has a song on his first "solo" album called Winter Warz. And that was back in '96.

Oddly enough in Guilty Gear, there is a character who closely resembles Kuukaku. Her name is Baiken. She has one arm, is rude and quite violent. When you win with her she sits with a pipe and smokes it.

Bleach was released after Baiken's appearance in Guilty Gear.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Bleach started in 2001. So it's more likely that Magna Carta copied Kisuke than the other way around. ^_^

IMO Bleach sometimes copies JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

- katana possesed by spirit (with its own name). Zanpakutou?

- Crazy Diamond's powers are very similar to Shun Shun Rikka's restoraton powers.

- One of Golden Experience's ability is the same as Mayuri's superhuman drug.

All that appeared in 90s.
